Manually Aimed Satellite Internet Tripod Systems

Orbital enterprises offers two tripod mounted manually pointed mobile satellite internet solutions for customers wanting to take Starbands Consumer satellite internet service on the road.

The Standard Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Kit comes with a .75 meter antenna and a smaller tripod.

The Baja Blaster Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Kit comes with a larger .98 meter antenna and bigger sturdier tripod to handle the added weight and size.

Where you will be traveling and using your system is going to largely determine which kit you will need. Take a close look at this foot print map showing the coverage areas of our satellite service:

G27 map

This is a foot print image of the G-27 satellite, formerly known as IA-7 satellite and located at the 129 degree orbital slot. The Standard Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Kit will give you internet connectivity just about anywhere within the 46 and even out to the 44 db line although signal quality will be low and maintaining a solid connection may be difficult at that or near that line. The Baja Blaster Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Kit will take you out to the 42 db line and a 1.2 meter will pretty much keep you connected anywhere within the 40 db line.

You should take all of this with a grain of salt since the map is meant to give you a general idea. It reads just like a topo map especially where the lines are close together. At these points the cliff effect comes into play and the signal will drop off very rapidly.

As you approach the outer limits of your antennas performance in a particular location you will notice that at night you will stay connected fine but as soon as 10AM to about 6 PM roll around you will lose receive lock because the satellites signal will not be strong enough to over come the background solar noise.

In order to use these systems you will be required to get certified. This is an easy free process that is detailed here.

The Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Kits do not include the basic Nova Sky Edge equipment and monthly service plan, or a satellite finding meter. They are strictly kits that allow you to take what is normally equipment meant to be installed at a fixed location on the road with you. Additional equipment and a description of available service plans to use with these kits can be found by clicking here.
You can set these systems up with out a meter by using the internal GUI signal meter built into the Nova SE modem. It’s a bit cumbersome but we can show you how to do it. Or in our online store you can buy a Digisat III pro satellite finding meter ( good ) or a professional Birdog satellite finding meter with digital stream identification to positively identify the correct satellite ( best)
