Fixed Site Starband Satellite Installation and Training Services

Installation: Fixed Units
StarBand recommends that a certified technician installs a fixed site satellite system. We can provide a professional installation if you are near Raleigh, NC. Most installations cost about $225 for a standard install (within 1 hour of our location). Installation is not included in the equipment pricing. You can save installation fees by getting certified and installing our systems yourself. Outside this area StarBand's network of certified installers are available to assist with the installation. Installers can be found nationwide. Send me your zip and I'll tell you if there is one near you.

Getting Certified
Getting certified to do a self-install can save you hundreds of dollars. If you are handy with tools, comfortable around computers, like following detailed user manuals and willing to invest some time taking a free online course you can get certified. It takes about 3-5 hours and involves several free tests.

Go to www.StarBand.com/training and read the entire page carefully.

At the top of the page click on Starband Installation Training.

Scroll down and download the full 360 training material, so you have it as a reference and won't need to be online again until you take the test. Click on and read everything because they will ask some obscure questions and if you have the course on your PC you can easily reference it when you are ready to take the test.

NOTE: Please make sure you do not have pop-up blockers enabled or you will not be able to complete the process.

Once you are comfortable with the material, log back on, and go into the training materials. At the very end of the training materials, after clicking on the last item in the course there is a qualification exam, which you must pass with an 85% or better. You can take the exam as many times as you want. When you pass, you will get an authorization code. Please write this down and save it!

The next step is to go back to the training URL and click on the choice to take the exam "Starband Certification Test". When you register for the exam, it is going to ask for your authorization code. When asked about dealer affiliation, select "other" and type "TecnicaMattia" in the field.

Now that you have your 360 certification, there is one more very short training module and exam for the new Nova modems that you need to take and pass. You do not need to take the 48x series course.

Once you pass the actual certification exam you will get a certification number that will become valid in about 24 hours. After passing the exams and getting your certification it's a good idea to actually log into CVACS and make sure the system is accepting your number. If not you will need to call tech support and let them know so they can manually enter you into the installer database.

Mobile Satellite Internet Tripod Syaytems
Because you will be transmitting back up to a satellite there is the very real possibility that you can cause interference to the satellite and adjacent satellites if you dish is not perfectly aimed. Orbital Enterprises requires all users of our portable systems to be certified, Hands on training is not required but highly recommended, don't let this discourage you. As mentioned above, you can complete the free certification and tests online at www.StarBand.com/training It takes 3-5 hours to complete the process. The subsequent hands on training includes a complete explanation of the program and familiarization with the equipment.

Your trainer will:
• Show you how to configure your modem
• Help you do the initial commissioning/activation of the modem
• Show you how to find the satellite to which you are assigned
• Show you how to properly peak your antenna and call in to CVACS the automated antenna alignment checking program
• Show you how to adjust your antenna alignment parameters if they are out of spec
• Get you online, help register your account and set up your primary e-mail account

Finally you will be asked to take all the equipment down and set it back up on your own. We want to be sure you are comfortable with all aspects of the equipment and service before you head out on your own with the system.

Once you are on the road Orbital Enterprises is your first line of support, along with StarBand's Tech-support Centers which are located in the USA and staffed by US citizens. The call-in support center is open 7 days a week 9AM to 11PM EST weekdays and 9AM to 5PM EST Saturday and Sunday.
